Yesterday’s big Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage highlights one of the perils of relying too much on a simplistic public cloud strategy. While the root cause of the outage has not yet been publicly announced by AWS, many internet-based businesses found their sites down, rendered unusable as storage relegated to AWS was unavailable, or suffering through excruciatingly long page load times.

Aditum IMS relies on the cloud, too (Microsoft Azure), but with a difference. An Azure outage would impact the ability to manage the account, and would also impact tenants who try to sign-in or reboot during the outage.  However, our devices cache signed-in tenant information locally for the duration of the session, which means tenants who are already online will remain online with zero interruption.
